Growing up in the 70's and 80's if you needed money, you had to go out into the workplace, get a job working for someone else and constantly hope that you could find a better job working for a different someone else. In this new economy, that is thankfully no longer the case. Although it is good to have a job with a stable income, there are so many more ways to make money than ever before to help supplement or eventually even replace the old workplace jobs, especially when you hear about so many people starting money-making hobbies out of necessity that turn into million dollar business. Below are 10 money-making ideas that you can use to supplement your income and that maybe could even replace your old workplace job.
-The Internet. On the page titled 5 Money Making Internet Ideas, I gave 5 ways that you could get started today making money on the internet. These start out slowly but over time could bring in lots of cash. There are now thousands of people who work from home on their computers which enable them alot more free time, family time, and of course sleep time. Who wouldn't want to sleep late, work less, and still make really good money?
-Yard Sales. While at first it may seem a bit old fashioned and not very profitable, there are ways in which you can make a yard sale into a very profitable venture. The highest priced and best selling item at any yard sale is the furniture. There is little of it so demand is high, unlike clothes which are a dime a dozen. When I was starting out on my own and needed new furniture, Me and my friends would sometimes ride around college neighborhoods at the end of the college semesters. College kids often just throw old furniture to the curb when they graduate and get high paying jobs. This furniture was not top notch but if you didn't have a table and got one for free, it was perfect at the time. While you could take this furniture and sell it at your yard sale, there is a much better place to find much better furniture, old computers, and any thing else that you can sell and that is all of the high dollar neighborhoods in your city or town, especially after Christmas. Wait until the trash day after Christmas, drive through expensive neighborhoods, and you will be amazed at the things that you can find on the side of the road. Store the items until your spring yard sale and you can make alot of money off of someone else's trash.
-Flea Markets. Check your local phone book or internet directory and you are bound to find your local flea-market. Here you can sell anything of value. Antiques, candles or soap that you can learn to make from home, clothes, cookies, you name it and you can sell it. Flea-markets are kinda like EBay in a warehouse. They do not cost alot to reserve a table or two for your goods and people flock to these things in droves.
-Bingo. It's not just for the elderly any more. Local churches, libraries, and civic organizations often hold Bingo days each week or month as fund-raisers. The payout is not a sure thing but if you win, you could take in some seriously needed cash.
-Rent out a room. Have extra space in your house or apartment? Rent out a room to a local college student, exchange student, or young professional. You have to do an online background check but the money would be regular every month and it is always nice to meet new people.
-Recycle. Recycling junk metal or cans may not seem profitable but there was a woman in my home town growing up who lost her husband and had to get money to feed her kids. She drove around apartments and neighborhhods gathering all of the scrap metal that she could find and selling it at a recycling plant. Not only did it feed her kids and help the planet but she turned her daily scavinging hunt into a full-time metal recycling business with 20+ employees and later sold her business for alot of cash.
-Farmers markets. Have a green thumb? Grow tomatoes or vegetables in your back yard and take them to farmers markets to sell. There is not alot of cash in produce but you will likely make new friends.
-Baby sitting. Keeping kids while their parents work during the day could bring in some extra needed cash especially on the weekends when daycares are usually closed.
-House sitting. Watching peoples houses while they are away on vacation is easy. You could do more than one at a time. It doesn't mean that you sleep there, just check by every day to feed their pets, check the doors and windows, and make sure there are no gas leaks. Advertise at church or in the paper. Easy money.
-Walk dogs. Live in a neighborhood with alot of pets? Walk peoples dogs for them. Charge them money. That simple.
As you can see, there are many ways to make money in this economy, you just have to be creative.
